Science

We started Science with a whole school Assembly.

The theme for British Science week this year was Growth. We based our week on the book Jack and the Beanstalk. All Classes carried out an investigation into whether or not bigger hands hold more beans. We also  planted bean seeds which we will grow at school. Every child was given a t shirt and asked to  create a design which represented the theme of Growth and there was a prize for the best design in each class.

Each class then carried out extra investigations which included making bubbles with bubbles, making bubbles which children could stand in, investigating what happens when you add bicarbonate of soda to different liquids,

freezing different liquids, building the tallest tower, finding out which materials are magnetic and exploring circuits.

At St James' C of E Infant School, our curriculum is a skills based curriculum designed to ensure that all of our pupils have access to a wide range of learning opportunities enabling them to develop their love of learning whlst ensuring that all the requirements of the national curriculum are met.

Each subject area has its own progression ladder clearly showing the skills taught and their progression through from nursery to KS1.

As a school we are committed to the importance of oracy and supporting children with  in the development of their vocabulary.  Therefore, our progression ladders clearly show vocabulary expectations from nursery to the end of KS1.
