Daily Literacy lessons are taught across the school and these are linked to our half-termly Learning Challenge. We pride ourselves in a language rich environment and language acquisition is a big focus in our school. All of our topics are based on quality texts and children use these on which to model their own writing.

Progress and attainment in reading is a priority in our school and alongside 'Phonics', our aim is to develop a love of books and a pleasure for reading in all of our pupils. Twice a year we have whole school reading weeks which include family trips to the library; trips to Waterstones and other events including the Derby Book Festival.

We have recently spent time enlarging and developing our school library and have a whole school library morning each Tuesday, where all children change their library books.
